At SP Stainless, we firmly believe that hands-on experience is pivotal in shaping future professionals. Consequently, we are committed to offering students immersive experiences within our industry, allowing them to transition from theoretical understanding to practical application.
This spring, we welcomed mechanical engineering students from Savonia University of Applied Sciences to our factory in Toivala for an insightful visit. The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with a comprehensive view of modern manufacturing and engineering practices. We aimed to engage them in a dialogue about the challenges and opportunities within the field, as well as the skills that will be crucial in the future.
The visit served as a catalyst for deeper collaboration, particularly for a group of three students – Rajshree Dey, Juuso Holopainen and Prince Emeka – who were inspired to participate in a design project. This project will not only remain at the conceptual level but will also be integrated into SP Stainless’s production process, offering the students both practical experience and academic credits.
This type of collaboration is strategically important to us at SP stainless. Our goal is to create seamless pathways between education and the professional world, making it easier for students to transition into their careers. By providing real projects and tangible opportunities to apply their skills, students can better understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
“As a company, we want to give students the opportunity to explore and learn through real experience. When a design moves all the way into production, the learning experience becomes significantly more meaningful,” says Aki Koljonen, our Factory Director. The idea for this student collaboration originated with Koljonen and has since developed into a practical initiative.
This collaboration also benefits our company, bringing fresh perspectives, new ideas, and the curiosity of students to our development work. Ideally, this partnership is a mutually beneficial, ongoing process that enriches both parties.
We extend our gratitude to Savonia University of Applied Sciences for their excellent cooperation and to Pasi Liimatainen for organizing and coordinating the visit. We are eager to see how the project unfolds and to create more opportunities for collaboration with future professionals.
